Festivalist.
Photography allows us to see what life would look like if it were a picture, a still image in time capturing a unique moment. Once that moment passes, it can never be exactly replicated. Photographing human nature, in the wild, is freeing and in itself shows off the freedom humans have to express themselves without judgment. One space that allows the people of this earth to feel this way is at music festivals. There are actually two different performances occurring at these large musical gatherings. A performance by the musical talents themselves, and a performance of those who attend. The elaborate, sparkly, colorful, zany outfits they wear to a festival or show are also crying out to be seen just as much as the performers. The intention of this series is to showcase, in an unfiltered form, the incredible people who attend EDM shows, and celebrate the marvelous culture that they have created. From the outfits they wear to the odd rituals they follow. Even the language they use which, like any language, has been cultivated and taught from older generations of concert goers, who paved the way for the new generation. This series of photographs were taken over a three month period from January to April 2022. Locations included Boulder Theater, Fox Theater, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Cervantes Theater, and Mission Ballroom, all of which are located in Colorado. This series is intended to celebrate the people who go to these shows to escape their lives and dive into a new reality, a new world, that is the festivalist.
